It is owned by Activision, and game developers such as Infinity Ward, Treyarch, and Sledgehammer Games have taken turns over these years developing each release.
COD was first released in 2003 simply as ''Call of Duty''. Since then, it has become an immensely popular game, with new versions releasing every couple years. Initially, the game was set in World War II, but eventually the games released became set in modern time. In total, there have been currently fifteen official games that were released, and the game has sold over 250 million copies and grossed over fifteen billion USD.
