Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is a FPS (first-person shooter) video game developed by Valve.

It's the fourth game in the Counter-Strike series released in 2012 and is protected by VAC.

In CS:GO there are few game modes to choose from but the most popular is 5 vs. 5 (terrorists vs counter-terrorists). Players got the wide range of official and community maps to choose from. The goal is to plant/defuse the bomb or save the hostages (depends on map). Alternatively you can kill all opponents. One competitive game takes around 30 minutes and is split up to 30 rounds (BO30 - team with 16 wins win the game). If 15-15 happens, game will end with a tie.

After the match players gain XP and a chance for an item drop.

Micro-transactions[edit]

CS:GO supports micro-transaction as a part of Steam platform. Players can optionally purchase weapon skins, knives, gloves, cases, keys, stickers, capsules, graffiti or music kits through the game itself or Steam market.

Price for selected rare items can reach up to few hundred euro.

Community[edit]

CS:GO community (~12.000.000 players) created their own game modes like "surf" or "base builder". All of them can be found in the Community Server Browser available ingame. There is also a big e-sport scene with many official tournaments.

Valve Tournaments[edit]

There are different types of tournaments in CS:GO. All of the tournaments written below are called "Majors", which are Valve sponsored events. Minor teams have to go through Minor Championships organized by Valve in order to qualify for the Major.
