'''PlayerUnknown's Battle Ground''' ''(PUBG for short)'' is an online multiple battle royale game. The game was based off mods Brendan "PlayerUnknown" Greene developed for other games after seeing the film from 2000, Battle Royale. The game was developed and published by PUBG a branching company from Bluehole the Korean development company. The game was first released in beta on steam in March 2017, and by the end of 2017 the game had sold over 20 million copies. The full release for the game is planned for December 20, 2017, and it will be launching across [https://store.steampowered.com/ Steam] and Xbox One. PlayerUnknown's Battle Ground has taken over the gaming scene in 2017, with over a peak of 2 million player count it was the most played game on steam. On the famous streaming site [https://www.twitch.tv/ Twitch.tv] PlayerUnknown's Battleground has ruled over generally being the number 1 streamed game in terms of viewers and streams. With all the success PlayerUnknown's Battleground has brought, rival games have been created such as Fortnite: Battle Royale. Fortnite: Battle Royale was introduced to Windows, macOS, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in September 2017 as a free-to-play standalone game. This game has the same game mechanics as PlayerUnknown's Battle Ground and has brought about lots of controversy in the gaming world.

== Gameplay ==

The mechanics to PlayerUnknown's Battle Ground are very simple. Battlegrounds is a player versus player (PvP) game in which one hundred players fight in a battle royale, a type of large-scale last man standing deathmatch where players eliminate other players in order to win. Players can choose to enter the match solo, or with a small team of up to four people. The winning player/team is the last man standing at the end of the match.

Every match starts with players parachuting from a plane onto a map area approximately 8 by 8 kilometers in size. The plane's flight path across the map changes with each round, requiring players to quickly decide the best time to eject and parachute to the ground deciding where to land. Players start with no-gear aside from cosmetic gear that is purchasable from in-game currency, but this is purely for aesthetic use only. Upon landing, players can search buildings and other sites to find weapons, vehicles, armor, clothing, and other equipment. Equipment locations change with every round, although typically the riskier the location the better loot haul is provided. Once a player is eliminated their items are dropped and are able to be picked up by nearby players. The game can be played in either first-person or third-person perspective, each has a unique set of advantages and disadvantages. Many players have different strategies which is one of the aspects that makes the game interesting, every player can choose to play differently.

Every few minutes within the game, the playable area shrinks in circular fashion. Any players caught outside of the circle take damage incrementally and eventually will be eliminated if they do not re-enter the playable part of the map. These outside walls are seen in-game as shimmering blue wall. The reason for the closing-in of the map is for more player encounters to ensure camping is difficult and to reduce the time each match takes. Loot drops are also part of the game. At random, a plane will fly across the map and drop a loot box at a random place(s) in the map which generally contains very rare items. Once the lot box has appear it emits a large red smoke to attract players and cause confrontations. Generally a match lasts around 30 minutes generally they can fall shorter but very rarely longer. After every match an in-game currency is earned for statistics such as dealt-damage, player kills, survival time, and things of that nature. The in-game currency earned is used to buy cosmetic gear for customization but that have no real in-game use.

== Development ==
The lead developer for PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is Bredan "PlayerUnknown" Greene. His popularity in game development was noticed after he modded a very popular Arma 2 mod Dayz. He named the mod Dayz: Battle Royale. The development for Greene's game came from his attempts on many games: H1Z1, Arma 2, Dayz, and finally standalone as PlayerUnknown's Battleground.

* All drivable vehicles except motorcycles have poppable tires. Vehicle tires can be popped in order to prevent other players from using the vehicle.

* When shooting out of a vehicle as a passenger it is possible to kill/down other players that are in the same vehicle.
