The game-play of Apex Legends is the most similar to Fortnite and Players Unknown: Battlegrounds, in the sense that both are battle royals. Where these games start to move away from Apex Legends can be summarized bellow.

Apex Legends has 9 different playable characters with there own abilities. They each have a Passive ability which works throughout the entire game and cannot be toggled manually. They all each have a specific Q and R ability. The Q ability is a champions main ability. It normally has a relatively lowish cool down and provides each champion with either a damage source or a healing source or just an all around helpful ability to get around the map. The ultimate ability is default on Z or R depending on your keyboard and computer. This ability is a champions most helpful tool. It can range from a portable trampoline which if jumped on shoots your allies and you far into the sky, helping you travel distances, All the way to a helicopter dropped missile strike that rains down in a straight line across a medium sized area. While the ultimate can be extremely helpful for getting you into/out of a fight, the cool down for these abilities is traditionally long... BUT the creators knew this and decided to add an item called a "Ultimate Accelerant" which if toggled takes 6-8 seconds to use and removes ~20% of your ultimates remaining cool down!
